Bookend Shows Highlight Texas Art Then and Now

FORT WORTH–(July 16, 2013) Two shows coming to the Fort Worth Community Arts Center highlight the work by Texas artists then and now. Originated by the Collectors of Fort Worth Art and held for more than a decade, Texas Art Collector Show and Sale of Early Texas Art will be followed this year by Texas Art Now, a survey of contemporary work by Texas artists.

“It seemed obvious we should bookend the work by early Texas artists with a contemporary survey,” says promoter Eric Miller, whose company Vintage Promotions, LLC is producing the events.

Texas Art Now is being curated by Susan Roth Romans of Dallas-based Ro2 Art Galleries. Roth owned and operated MJS Fine Art, a well-known Fort Worth Gallery, open in the 1970s-80s, known for its diverse mix of groundbreaking programming, featuring Texas, National, and Internationally known artists.

“We are honored to be able to bring this show together,” Roth says. “It will be great to be back and involved in the Fort Worth art community.”

A preview of Texas Art Now will be available at the Texas Art Collector Show and Sale of Early Texas Art August 9th and 10th. Premiere galleries in the state including William Reaves Fine Art, David Dike Fine Art, Beuhler Fine Art, Cynthia Brants Trust and others. A reception Friday evening is sponsored by Heritage Auctions.

In addition, the Old Jail Arts Center of Albany Texas, which houses a large collection of work by Texas artists, will be displaying archival materials from several early Texas artists.

The shows are operated and promoted by Vintage Promotions, LLC, which operates markets in Texas, Illinois and Michigan.
