Everett Spruce

Work by Everett Spruce in Museum of Fine Arts, HoustonEverett Spruce (1908-2002) A Texas regionalist and native of Arkansas, Everett Franklin Spruce is known for his scenes of the Big Bend Hill Country, Gulf Coast and West Texas. Spruce exhibited at the Texas Centennial Exposition and in 1937 was the first Dallas artist to exhibit at New York’s Delphic Studios. The Museum of Modern Art acquired a Spruce painting in 1939. Spruce taught art at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and the University of Texas at Austin.
