Luis Jiménez

Luis Jiménez (1940-2006) Born in El Paso, Luis Jiménez was best known for his large polychromed fiberglass sculptures, including the 32 foot Blue Mustang at the Denver Airport. Jiménez died after a section of the heavy sculpture fell and severed an artery in his leg. Jiménez studied art and architecture at the University of Texas at Austin and El Paso and later at Cuidad Universitaria, Mexico City. He taught art at the University of Arizona and later the University of Houston. His works are held by many museums including the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, El Paso Museum of Art and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, Oklahoma where a smaller version of the Mustang, Mesteño, is on display.
