Seymour Fogel (1911 – 1984) A native of New York City, Fogel’s artistic output included social realist art, abstract, expressionist and transcendental art. He worked in a variety of media including glass, plastics, sand, and wax. He studied at both the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. He was awarded several mural commissions including one at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. In 1946, he moved to Austin where he became an integral part of the Texas Modernism movement. Though he returned to New York City in 1959, Fogel returned to complete a mural project in U.S. Federal Building in Fort Worth. Fogel’s has been exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Telfair Museum of Art and the Dallas Museum of Art.
