Ward Lockwood

Ward Lockwood (1894-1963) A native of Kansas, Lockwood is known primarily as a Taos painter. Trained at the University of Kansas, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy Ranson in France. His work was included in exhibits at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Whitney Biennial. He completed murals in post offices in Washington DC, Kansas and Texas. Lockwood served as Chair of the Department of Art at the University of Texas and later worked as a professor at the University of California at Berkeley. Lockwood painted in Cubist, Expressionist, Surrealist and Constructivist styles.
